FreeThese options keep you in the same career field and reduce risk through parallel pathways.
Option A
Use B.Tech degree to apply directly to private sector engineering companies — L&T, Tata Projects, Siemens, ABB etc.
Why this works: Private sector core engineering companies pay well and offer excellent career growth. PSU is not the only good employer.
Effort change: Lower job security than PSU but higher starting salary in some cases
Salary impact: ₹4-12L starting in good private engineering companies
PSU is prestigious but not the only path. L&T, Siemens, ABB, and Bosch build India's infrastructure and offer world-class careers.
Option B
Try UPSC IES (Indian Engineering Services) — a different but equally prestigious government engineering path
Why this works: IES requires different preparation from GATE — engineering + General Studies. A second major government opportunity for engineering graduates.
Effort change: Requires additional General Studies preparation
Salary impact: Class 1 Government Officer pay scale + perks
GATE and IES are different exams with different strengths. If GATE didn't work, IES is a fresh start on a different track to the same government prestige.
