Option A
DNB (Diplomate of National Board) is a postgraduate medical qualification equivalent to MD/MS, offered by NBE through accredited hospitals including Apollo, Fortis, Max, and government hospitals. Apply to DNB Direct (Broad Speciality) or DNB Post-MBBS. NBE conducts its own entrance (INI CET / NEET PG scores accepted).
Why this works: DNB is recognised by MCI and is equivalent to MD/MS for all government jobs, teaching positions, and independent practice. Hospital-based training is often more hands-on than MD in government medical colleges.
Effort change: DNB uses same NEET PG scores. NBE Direct exams have lower cutoffs than government MD seats. Application process is different — apply directly to accredited hospitals.
Salary impact: DNB stipend during training: ₹65,000–₹90,000/month at private hospitals. Post-DNB specialist salary: ₹1.5L–₹4L/month depending on speciality and city.
DNB doctors work at AIIMS, PGI, and top private hospitals at par with MD. The stigma is outdated — NBE is a premier examining body.
Option B
UPSC CMS (Combined Medical Services) selects MBBS doctors directly as gazetted Group A officers into Central Health Services, Railways Medical, CGHS, ESI, CAPF Medical, Army Medical Corps. No postgraduate degree needed — MBBS is sufficient. Salary, perks, and job security are among the best available to MBBS doctors.
Why this works: CMS officers get Grade Pay equivalent to Class 1 officers, government accommodation, security, full pension, and eventual promotion path to Chief Medical Officer. Job security is unmatched.
Effort change: UPSC CMS exam is held once a year. Preparation is Objective + Interview. Much less competitive than NEET PG for government seats.
Salary impact: Starting: ₹67,700 (Level 10) + NPA (Non-Practising Allowance) + HRA. Effective monthly: ₹1.2L–₹1.5L with allowances. Progressive scale to CMO level.
MBBS itself is a complete qualification. UPSC CMS gives the security and respect of a central government officer without needing PG.
