Any Stream → NIFT/NID Entrance → B.Des Fashion/Textile Design → Fashion Industry
Students from any stream with a strong visual sense and passion for clothing, textile, and design can pursue B.Des (Fashion Design, Leather Design, Textile Design) at NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) through NIFT entrance, or B.Des at NID (National Institute of Design). NIFT is India's premier fashion institution — its graduates work at brands like Fabindia, Manyavar, Allen Solly, and international fashion houses. Fashion designers with 5–8 years experience earn ₹8–25 LPA; top designers with their own labels have no income ceiling.

Qualification path

Class 11-12 — Any Stream

Stream does not affect NIFT/NID eligibility — Arts, Commerce, or Science all qualify. Arts students have an advantage in the CAT (Creative Ability Test) due to drawing practice. B.Des Fashion Design / Textile Design (4 years)

NIFT's CAT paper tests creative sensibility through sketching, colour work, and design observation — cannot be cracked by rote learning. GAT tests English and reasoning. Prepare CAT from Class 11 with daily sketching. NIFT has 15 campuses. Fees: ₹1.5-2.5L/year — very affordable for design education.
